The Cold Facts About Refrigerated Trucks

The Cold Facts About Refrigerated Trucks

Refrigerated trucks are hot commodities that never lose their appeal. Adding a reefer truck to your fleet expands your capabilities and can put you miles ahead of the competition. From fresh food to flowers, a refrigerated truck gives you the freedom and flexibility to deliver quality products to customers who are minutes down the road or many hours away.

Reefer trucks come in a broad range of styles and sizes. You can configure your vehicle to deliver fresh meat, produce, dairy goods, etc. It’s even possible to select a vehicle ideally suited for your typical delivery area. For example, the size and steering characteristics of the 2021 M and L Series provides superior maneuverability. This makes these vehicles perfectly suited for operating as delivery trucks in urban environments. Moreover, the range of body styles, interior racks, and refrigeration units available allow you to customize your refrigerated truck for ease of access, cooling capacity, cargo capacity, and the delivery range best suited for your operations.

The bottom line is that adding a refrigerated truck to your fleet allows you to increase your delivery schedule, expand your service area, and helps ensure that the perishable products you transport won’t be rejected or returned due to spoilage. Thus, adding a refrigerated truck to your fleet generates considerable savings that add up quickly. This makes a new reefer truck a cost-effective investment that will pay for itself. In fact, it is not uncommon for clients to purchase one truck, and then return in the not too distant future to purchase additional refrigerated vehicles as business plans are realized, and operational needs expand.

Finally, don’t forget that CARB compliance looms over the not too distant horizon. Adding a new refrigerated truck to your fleet can give you an edge on the competition. Purchasing a refrigerated truck in the coming months can make your business more efficient and more profitable as the demand for pre-prepared foods, fresh vegetables, fruits, and meats is certain to remain strong.

We’re happy to help you select a refrigerated truck that meets your needs for:

  • Cargo Capacity
  • Cooling Capacity
  • Fuel Efficiency
  • Maintenance Cost
  • Purchase Price

C&M Motors Announces Zanotti Refrigeration

Zanotti RefrigerationC&M Motors is excited to be representing Zanotti Transport Refrigeration. This is a sneak peek into our newest supplier, and we are looking forward to offering their quality products to compliment our line of reefer trucks.

Introduction to Zanotti

ZANOTTI was founded as a family-owned company in 1962. From the very beginning the group has developed its potential as a leader in the field of refrigeration, by introducing new and revolutionary solutions such as, the so-called ‘uniblock’ –a completely self-contained and ready-to-use cooling device for small environments. The company soon began to specialize in the production of domestic and non-domestic refrigeration devices for food preservation, and its refrigerating systems became bigger and bigger to meet the increasing demand of industries. During the 1990s, this trend led to the creation of big multi-compressor plants to meet the needs of large-scale retail trade. In the same period, Zanotti also introduced a new line of products for food transportation –the so-called ‘transblock’.   In the past seven years, the Italian company has seen enormous growth. Today it employs 650 people in eight plants located all around the world. Many things have changed since 2002 when a new management team took over the company.

Transport Refrigeration

Zanotti entered in this business in end of the 1990s, challenging the more than dominant position of the established market leaders.  The refrigerating units are used in urban, rural and international transportation of fresh and frozen food. The product range includes about 30 models, including battery operated units for small delivery vehicles, direct drive units for Vans and medium trucks, diesel units for medium and heavy-duty trucks and trailers; front and under-carriage mounted. The main production site is in North Italy, where annual production capacity could reach 10,000 units per year.

New legislation governing the storage and transport of fresh and frozen foods has meant a big increase in the demand for refrigerated vehicles. This demand is not only for more vehicles, but also for a greater range of types and sizes to suit a host of new applications. C&M Motors is equipped to meet the demand for different applications. Our custom fabrication department can tailor your truck to a specific request.

We would love to answer any questions you have about our new line of Zanotti products and how they can benefit your business. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is looking forward to hearing from you and we will keep you updated as this relationship with our latest supplier continues.

Medium Duty Trucks – Box Trucks, Dry Vans, and Reefer Trucks

medium-duty-trucksTruck classifications are typically based upon the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Trucks are classified by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), which groups classes 1–3 as light duty, 4–6 as medium duty, and 7–8 as heavy duty.

Medium Duty Trucks

Medium duty trucks are defined as weighing between 14001–26000 pounds. There are 3 classes of medium duty truck.

  • Class 4 trucks have gross vehicle weight rating ranges from 14001–16000 lbs.
  • Class 5 trucks have gross vehicle weight rating ranges from 16001–19500 lbs.
  • Class 6 trucks have gross vehicle weight rating ranges from 19501–26000 lbs.

Some trucks listed as medium duty also are known as:

  • Box Trucks
  • Dry Vans
  • Refrigeration Trucks

A Box Truck is a truck with a box-shaped cargo area. The medium duty box truck usually ranges in size from 14 to 26 feet in length. They typically have a rolls-up door in the rear for loading cargo and on some box trucks, the cargo area is accessible from the cab through a small door.

A Dry Van is a type of Box truck. The Dry Van is the most common type of freight transportation in the US. Dry Vans, or enclosed box trucks, look like box on wheels with doors in the back. They have no temperature control and are designed to carry pallets or boxes of cargo, furniture, and any type of equipment. Dry vans are versatile and are typically used for moving non-perishable foods and beverages, textile and clothing items, plastic and building products. Dry Van cargo is protected from bad weather, theft, and most damage when secured properly.

A Refrigeration Truck (or Reefer Truck) is another example of a Box Truck. While a Dry Van is generally used by companies that need to haul appliances, furniture, and equipment, a Reefer Truck carries perishable goods like fresh or frozen produce.

All of these medium duty trucks can be found at your local full-service truck dealership, C&M Motors, NationaLease of San Diego.
