Incentives and Rebates for Switching to Electric Trucks in San Diego

Incentives and Rebates for Switching to Electric Trucks in San Diego

As businesses across San Diego seek sustainable transportation solutions, electric commercial trucks are emerging as a viable and environmentally friendly option. C&M Motors, NationaLease of San Diego, is at the forefront of this transition, proudly taking delivery of the SEA 5e, an electric commercial truck akin to the popular Hino 195 body style. This move underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in commercial transportation.

The shift towards electric trucks, such as the electric box truck, is driven by a variety of incentives and rebates available in San Diego. These financial incentives are designed to reduce the cost barrier associated with transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs), making it an economically attractive option for businesses.

Vouchers and Incentives

One of the primary incentives for businesses to invest in electric trucks is the federal tax credit, which can be as high as $7,500 per vehicle. Additionally, California offers several state-level incentives, including the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). HVIP provides vouchers that significantly lower the purchase price of new electric commercial vehicles, making them more competitive with traditional diesel trucks. For example, businesses purchasing an electric box truck can receive vouchers that may cover a substantial portion of the purchase price, depending on the model and capacity.

Local Incentives

Local incentives in San Diego include the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) EV Climate Credit. This credit is applied to the electric bills of businesses and residential customers who own registered electric vehicles, providing additional annual savings. Such incentives are crucial in promoting the adoption of electric vehicles, contributing to the city’s environmental goals.

C&M Motors, by integrating vehicles like the SEA 5e electric truck into their fleet, is not only taking advantage of these incentives but is also helping to lead the charge towards a greener future. The company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable business practices is evident in their proactive approach to adopting advanced vehicle technologies.

By choosing electric commercial trucks, businesses in San Diego can benefit from lower operating costs, reduced environmental impact, and substantial financial incentives. With commercial truck dealerships like C&M Motors leading by example, the transition to electric transportation is set to accelerate, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future in commercial transport. CARB Reopens Incentives for Clean Air Trucks

CARB Reopens Incentives for Clean Air Trucks

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and CALSTART have announced the reopening of the popular HVIP Incentive Program. This year’s program makes available $165 million to California-based businesses that will upgrade their fleets with new, zero-emission and near-zero-emission clean vehicles. This great program is a first come, first served opportunity to make electric and hybrid trucks as affordable as their fossil-fueled predecessors in an effort to reduce emissions in the state of California.

This year’s HVIP funds have 2 release dates: the first has already seen the funds exhausted, and the second starts on August 10th. Drayage trucks and Class 8 commercial trucks are exempt from the pause in support of CARB’s Project 800 initiative. This project has a goal of 800 zero-emission drayage trucks in 2021, advancing California’s clean transportation sector.

Greater vehicle options in CARB 2021 program is paving the way for more businesses and public fleets to embrace clean air vehicles as well as to help the market grow and accelerate these technologies.

CARB ProgramSince its inception, HVIP has provided over $400 million in funding to help businesses and public fleets deploy more than 7 thousand clean air vehicles.

We are excited to help our local businesses be part of the 2021 HVIP program.  We encourage you to call us to get onboard while funds are available. In addition to the immediate savings, the long-term savings and benefits are substantial. With fuel costs rising and savings on maintenance, this program is a huge benefit to our local San Diego businesses that need to upgrade or add to their existing fleets.

Don’t Delay – the $165 million in funding will run out!
