California Air Resources Board (CARB) extended the Clean Truck Check reporting deadline, allowing heavy-duty truck owners an extra month for compliance. Initial reporting and fee payment for 2023 was required by January 31, 2024, using the new Clean Truck Check-Vehicle Inspection System (CTC-VIS) database. The program aims to reduce air pollution by restricting highly polluting trucks, promoting prompt emissions control system repairs, and enabling remote smog-check submissions.

Reporting applies to vehicles over 14,000 lbs. GVWR using diesel or alternative fuels in California, regardless of registration origin. Check TruckStop Clean Truck Check page for deadlines and program updates. The regulation targets heavy-duty vehicle emissions, projected to reduce nitrogen and particulate matter emissions significantly by 2037.

Clean Truck Check aligns with California’s plan to improve air quality, backed by a $624 million funding plan. This plan supports incentives for zero-emission vehicles, emphasizing equity. Funding includes vouchers for low-income residents, an e-bike incentive project, aid for school districts, and support for various mobility projects. The goal is to transition fleets to zero-emission options, contributing to California’s success in surpassing zero-emission vehicle goals.
