The California Department of Motor Vehicles will begin compliance verification starting January 1st, 2020. This process will ensure that vehicles are in compliance with the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Truck and Bus Regulation. Failure to comply may result in delays in obtaining DMV registration.
The regulation applies to nearly all diesel trucks; a few minor exemptions are offered.
For lighter vehicles – Commercial Trucks Weighing 14K-26K lbs. GVWR
2004 and older DMV Compliance verification begins on Jan 1st, 2020.
2005-2007 DMV Compliance verification begins one year later Jan 1st, 2021.
2008-2010 DMV Compliance verification begins Jan 1st, 2023.
For heavier vehicles – Commercial Trucks Weighing 26K+ lbs. GVWR
2000 and older DMV Compliance verification begins on Jan 1st, 2020.
2001-2005 DMV Compliance verification begins one year later Jan 1st, 2021.
2006-2007 DMV Compliance verification begins yet another year later Jan 1st, 2022.
2008-2010 DMV Compliance verification begins Jan 1st, 2023.
